El 25 de Mayo es el cumple de

Carlo Dolci, pintor italiano del barroco nacido en Florencia en 1616. Sus pinturas religiosas fueron copiadas con frecuencia por otro artistas. Su popularidad fue enorme hasta bien entrado el siglo XIX, cuando el gusto por la religiosidad edulcorada decreció notablemente. Se dice que cada año, durante la Semana Santa, pintó siempre un Redentor coronado de espinas hasta el día de su muerte. En 1682 sufrió una profunda depresión cuando supo que Luca Giordano, motejado como 'Luca fa presto', pintaba en cinco horas lo que a él le había llevado varios meses. Murió en 1686.

Gabriel Bracho, artista venezolano nacido en Los Puertos de Altagracia, Zulia, en 1915. Él y César Rengifo fueron los mayores exponentes del movimiento del realismo social en Venezuela. Su obra está permeada por temas sociales, políticos e históricos.
Desde 1936 hasta 1939 estudió en la Academia de Bellas Artes en Caracas, y continuó sus estudios en la Escuela de Artes Aplicadas en Chile hasta 1942. En 1943 comenzó un tour por varios países incluidos los Estados Unidos, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay e Italia, que culminó con el artista viviendo en París.
Inicialmente influenciado por los impresionistas, expresionistas y cubistas abrazó las tendencias nacionalistas y revolucionarias de los muralistas mexicanos. Regresó a Venezuela en 1950.
Murió en Caracas el 6 de marzo de 1995.

El 26 de Mayo es el cumple de

Gustavo Arias Murueta, artista plástico mexicano dedicado a la pintura al óleo, el grabado, la ilustración, la escultura y el dibujo, nacido en 1923 en Los Angeles, EE.UU. Realizó su primera exposición en 1960 y en 1974 se estableció definitivamente en Ciudad de México. En 1976 viaja e Europa para conocer la obra de los grandes maestros.
Ha participado en Bienales Internacionales en Italia, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico y Cuba.
Aunque generalmente realiza sus obras de gran formato sobre tela, también ha utilizado polipropileno porque conserva mejor la pintura al óleo. Su obra forma parte de diversos museos mexicanos así como de Cuba, USA, Italia y Ecuador, entre otros.

Paul François Niclausse, escultor francés nacido en Metz en 1879, conocido por sus medallas en bronce de estilo Art déco.
Alumno de Hubert Ponscarme y de Gabriel-Jules Thomas en la École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de París. Profesor en la Académie Julian del escultor sueco Gunnar Nilsson. Fue nombrado profesor de la École nationale des arts décoratifs en 1930. Fue también profesor de la Escuela superior de Bellas Artes también en París, contando entre sus alumnos Louis Chavignier, François Aubrun, Pierre Nocca y la escultora Alina Szapocznikow.
Fue elegido miembro de la Academia de Bellas Artes de Francia en 1943 hasta su muerte en 1958, dejando el sillón número 1 a Paul Belmondo.
Recibió la Legión de Honor. Una calle en Pommeuse lleva el nombre del escultor. Murió en 1958.

El 27 de Mayo es el cumple de

Iván Nicolaevich Kramskói (Ива́н Никола́евич Крамско́й) (8 de junio por el Calendario Gregoriano), pintor y crítico de arte ruso nacido en 1837. Fue uno de los inspiradores y el líder inicial de la Compañía de Exposiciones Artísticas Itinerantes. Entre 1857 y 1863 estudió en la Academia Imperial de las Artes (San Petersburgo), donde se enfrentó al academicismo imperante. 
Con los años acabaría creando una notable galería de retratos de contemporáneos ilustres. Pero también retrató con frecuencia a personas anónimas, siguiendo sus propias ideas acerca de la finalidad del arte. Son particularmente destacables sus retratos de campesinos rusos, en los que poniendo el acento sobre las características psicológicas del sujeto alcanza una gran expresividad. La orientación de las obras de Kramskói, sus agudas y críticas opiniones sobre el arte, y sus perseverante búsqueda de criterios objetivos en la valoración de las creaciones artísticas contribuyeron a desarrollar de un modo crucial la visión democrática del arte en la Rusia del último tercio del siglo XIX. Murió en 1887.

Georges Henri Rouault, pintor fauvista y expresionista, grabador y litógrafo francés nacido en 1871.
Su madre animó su amor por las artes, y en 1885 se embarcó en el aprendizaje con un pintor de vidrio y restaurador, cosa que hizo hasta 1890.
Durante su aprendizaje también asistió a clases nocturnas, y en 1891 entró en la Escuela de Bellas Artes, la escuela oficial de artes de Francia. Rouault también conoció a Matisse, Marquet, Henri Manguin y Charles Camoin. Esas amistades le acercaron al movimiento del fauvismo, cuyo líder se considera que era Matisse.
Al fin de su vida quemó 300 de sus pinturas. Murió en 1958.

El 28 de Mayo es el cumple de

Carl Larsson, pintor y diseñador de interiores sueco nacido en 1853. Destacado acuarelista, se crió en un entorno de pobreza. En 1866 asistió a a la Academia de Arte de Estocolmo donde destacó como dibujante. Durante de la década de los setenta del siglo XIX, realizó ilustraciones para libros, sin embargo alrededor de 1877, tras viajar a París por primera vez, se ve sumido nuevamente en la pobreza e incluso piensa en el suicidio.
Su suerte cambió al conocer a la que sería su musa y apoyo moral para el resto de su vida, la también artista Karin Bergöö. A partir de entonces comenzó a recibir encargos.
Después de tantas penurias, su objetivo artístico fue representar el "lado amable de la vida".
El personal estilo de decoración de Karin y de Larsson dio como fruto una manera completamente moderna de acondicionar y estructurar una casa. 
Murió en 1919.

Israel Roa Villagra, destacado pintor expresionista chileno nacido en 1909, ganador del Premio Nacional de Arte de Chile en 1985.
Decidido desde niño a seguir la carrera de pintor, se trasladó a Santiago en 1927. Estudió en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Chile.
En 1928 se trasladó a la ciudad de Valparaíso con la idea de encontrar la inspiración en el paisaje y retratar los colores y escenarios del puerto con sus alrededores costeros. En esa ciudad trabajó con el pintor Roko Matjasic.
En 1937 obtuvo la beca Humboldt que le permitió perfeccionar sus estudios en la Academia de Artes de Berlín (Alemania).
En sus óleos y acuarelas plasmó la fuerza del paisaje chileno y enfatizó la sensualidad, rasgos distintivos de la Generación a la que pertenecía. Murió en 2002.

El 29 de Mayo es el cumple de

Lars Bo, artista y escritor danés nacido en 1924. Se le conoce por su obra gráfica, con motivos de inspiración surrealista. Se le apodaba "El Mago". Trabajó con P. Rostrup Bøyesen en el Statens Museum for Kunst en el período de 1939 a 1940, y fue a la Escuela de Diseño danesa desde 1941 al 1943, tras lo cual viajó por Europa. Desde 1947 hasta su muerte, en 1999, vivió en París.
Entre 1948 y 1950 trabajó en el estudio gráfico de Johnny Friedläender y Albert Flocons. Hasta 1996 produjo grabados y aguatintas para grandes libros ilustrados. Algunos de sus más destacados trabajos en éste campo fue para ediciones clásicas de Hans Christian Andersen. Murió en 1999.

Nikolai Nicolayevich Galakhov (Galájov) (Николай Николаевич Галахов), artista ruso nacido en 1928 en Kazan. Es Artista de Honor de la Federación Rusa, miembro de la Unión de Artistas de San Petersburgo. Allí vive y trabaja, es considerado uno de los representantes de la Escuela de Pintura de Leningrado, y es famoso por sus pinturas de paisajes.
En 1942 entró en la Escuela de Arte de Kazan y se graduó en 1947. El mismo año se mudó a Leningrado y fue admitido en el Instituto de Pintura, Escultura y Arquitectura.
A fines de los '50 Galakhov viajó a Siberia y el Lago Baikal. Esto le condujo a nuevas experiencias que se concretaron en numerosos bocetos del natural y pinturas de paisajes. Estos viajes le ayudaron a diversificar su paleta y comprender las características plásticas de diferentes lugares, dieron nuevo ímpetu a sus búsquedas pictóricas y le prepararon para su encuentro con Karelia, que se convirtió en un punto de inflexión de su obra.

El 30 de Mayo es el cumple de

Fernando Cueto Amorsolo, uno de los más importantes artistas en la historia de la pintura Filipina, nacido en 1892 en Paco, Manila. 
Hijo de un librero, estudió en la Escuela de Arte Liceo de Manila y más tarde en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Filipinas. 
Influenciado por los españoles contemporáneos (Sorolla, Zuloaga), ganó su primer premio en la Escuela el año de su graduación en el Liceo. Sus optimistas y brillantes imágenes pastorales marcaron el tono de la pintura filipina antes de la Segunda Guerra, y a excepción de las oscuras obras de éste período, su obra mantuvo un carácter pacífico y tranquilo durante toda su carrera. Desde 1950 hasta 1972, año de su muerte, pintó una media de 10 obras mensuales.

Alexander (Oleksandr) Porfirovich Archipenko, (Олександр Порфирович Архипенко), artista de vanguardia, escultor y artista gráfico ucraniano nacido en 1887.
Entre 1902 y 1905 asistió a la Escuela de Arte de Kiev (KKHU), tras lo cual continuó su educación en artes como estudiante de S. Svyatoslavsky en 1906, también en Kiev. El mismo año expuso junto con Alexander Bogomazov en Kiev. Ese mismo año se mudó a Moscú.
Se trasladó a París en 1908. En 1912 tuvo lugar su primera exposición personal en el Museo Folkwang at Hagen, en Alemaina, y entre 1912 y 1914 enseñó en su propia escuela de artes en París.
En 1923 emigró a los Estados Unidos y participó en una muestra de pintura rusa y escultura.
Archipenko, junto con el escultor franco-húngaro Joseph Csaky, expuso en las primeras manifestaciones públicas del cubismo en París: el Salon des Indépendants y el Salon d'Automne, en 1910 y 1911, siendo el primero, después de Picasso, en emplear el estilo cubista en tres dimensiones. Murió en 1964.

Hoy, 31 de Mayo, es el cumple de

Michel Peretsovich Kikoïne, (Михаил Перецович Кикоин) pintor francés de estilo expresionista y origen bielorruso nacido en 1892. Perteneció a la llamada Escuela de París.
En la Escuela de Dibujo Kruger, en Minsk, conoció a Chaïm Soutine, con quien tendría una amistad de por vida. Estudiaron juntos en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Vilna, coincidiendo también con Pinchus Krémègne. En 1911, se trasladaron todos a París, donde se unieron a la cada vez mayor comunidad artística del barrio de Montparnasse.
En 1919 tuvo su primera exposición en París. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Kikoïne y su familia fueron confinados en campos de concentración. Después de la liberación aliada de Francia, regresó a París, realizando principalmente desnudos, retratos y autorretratos. Vivió en Cannes hasta su muerte en 1968.

Walter Richard Sickert, pintor y grabador nacido en 1860 que fue miembro del Camden Town Group en Londres. Fue una importante influencia en los distintivos estilos británicos del arte de vanguardia en el siglo XX.
Sickert fue un cosmopolita excéntrico que a menudo utilizó gente corriente y escenas urbanas como temas. Su obra también incluyó retratos de personalidades conocidas e imágenes derivadas de fotografías de prensa. Está considerado como una figura destacada en la transición del impresionismo al modernismo.
Aún cuando era hijo y nieto de pintores, la primera carrera que persiguió fue la de actor. Apareció en pequeños papeles en la compañía de Sir Henry Irving antes de  dedicarse al estudio del arte en 1881.
En 1883 viajó a París y conoció a Degas, cuya utilización del espacio pictórico y énfasis en el dibujo habrían tenido un poderoso efecto en su obra. Desarrolló una visión personal del impresionismo, con predominio de las coloraciones sombrías. Siguiendo los consejos de Degas, Sickert pintaba en su estudio, trabajando a partir de dibujos y de memoria, como un escape a la "tiranía de la naturaleza".
Se identifica especialmente con interiores domésticos, escenas de Venecia, salas de música, escenas de teatro y retratos. Murió en 1942.

They studied together at the School of Fine Arts in Vilnius, also coinciding with Pinchus Kremegne. In 1911, they all moved to Paris, where they joined the growing artistic community of Montparnasse. 
In 1919 he had his first exhibition in Paris. During World War II, Kikoïne and his family were confined in concentration camps. After the Allied liberation of France, he returned to Paris mainly doing nudes, portraits and self-portraits. He lived in Cannes until his death in 1968.

Walter Richard Sickert, painter and printmaker born in 1860 who was a member of the Camden Town Group in London. He was an important influence on distinctively British styles of avant-garde art in the 20th century.
Sickert was a cosmopolitan and eccentric who often favoured ordinary people and urban scenes as his subjects. His oeuvre also included portraits of well-known personalities and images derived from press photographs. He is considered a prominent figure in the transition from Impressionism to Modernism.
Though he was the son and grandson of painters, he first sought a career as an actor; he appeared in small parts in Sir Henry Irving's company, before taking up the study of art in 1881.
In 1883, he travelled to Paris and met Edgar Degas, whose use of pictorial space and emphasis on drawing would have a powerful effect on Sickert's work. He developed a personal version of Impressionism, favouring sombre colouration. Following Degas' advice, Sickert painted in the studio, working from drawings and memory as an escape from "the tyranny of nature".
He is identified particularly with domestic interior scenes, scenes of Venice, music hall and theatre scenes, and portraits. He died in 1942.
