Ian Ramsay nació en Farnborough, Kent, Inglaterra, en 1948. Pasó sus primeros años en Bretaña y Canadá, y eventualmente se asentó en Estados Unidos. Recibió un graduado en Arquitectura en la Universidad de Utah y es arquitecto licenciado. En 1979 Ian dejó la arquitectura para dedicarse full time al arte de la acuarela. 
Desde entonces ha viajado y pintado extensivamente. Su trabajo se ha exhibido en Estados Unidos, Japón y Gran Bretaña. Ha participado en jurados, demostraciones personales y talleres de pintura.

Ian y su esposa Carol han residido en Valle de Salt Lake en Utah los últimos 35 años. Su trabajo puede disfrutarse en la Brushwork Gallery de Salt Lake City, Utah; New Masters Gallery en Carmel, California; Trails West Gallery en Ketchum, Idaho; Settlers West Gallery en Tucson, Arizona, Trailside Galleries en Jackson Hole Wyoming, y a través de Image Source de Bovingdon, Inglaterra.

Ian lleva adelante un blog en el cual periódicamente publica selecciones de su abundante producción (como él mismo escribió: "...la pintura a la acuarela es una adicción para mí. Pinto casi a diario y obviamente produzco una gran cantidad de trabajos.") con algunas notas introductorias. Su labor pedagógica es importante, y tal como me comentaba cuando me autorizó la publicación de imágenes de su trabajo: "Siempre me hace feliz compartir mi trabajo con cualquiera... con la esperanza de que lo que hago pueda enseñar a otros acuarelistas direcciones nuevas o diferentes."

Ian Ramsay was born in Farnborough, Kent, England in 1948. He spent his early years in Britain and Canada, and eventually settled in the United States. He received a degree in architecture at the University of Utah and is a licensed architect. In 1979 Ian left architecture to become a full time watercolor artist. Since that time he has traveled and painted extensively. His work has been exhibited all over the US, Japan and Britain. Ian has participated in many juried, invitational and one man shows throughout the US and Japan. He has been an instructor at the Salt Lake Art Center and has done numerous demonstrations and painting workshops.

Ian and his wife Carol have been residents of the Salt Lake Valley in Utah for the last 35 years. His work can be seen at the Brushworks Gallery in Salt Lake City, Utah; New Masters Gallery in Carmel, California; Trails West Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho; Settlers West Gallery in Tucson, Arizona, Trailside Galleries in Jackson Hole Wyoming, and through Image Source of Bovingdon England.

Ian has a blog where periodically publish selections of his voluminous production (as he wrote: "...watercolor painting for me is an addiction. I paint almost every day and obviously produce a great deal of work.") with some introductory notes about. His pedagogic work is very important, and as he told me when authorizes me to publish images of his work: "I am always happy to share my work with anyone... in the hopes that what I do may help to teach other watercolorists a new or different direction."
